Visibilizing AfroLatin@s: Measuring Race

I am a Research Assistant for the Afrolatin@ Forum's Visibilizing AfroLatin@s Working Group. This working group seeks to improve the ways in which the Census and other official documents and scholarship identify and track racial inequalities within the Latinxs community. We are particularly interested in 1) understanding the conditions under which Afro-Latinxs identify as Black in survey research, and 2) tracking racial inequalities among Latinxs.

As part of this group, I helped design a more than 90-question survey to be conducted in New York City. I also surveyed 20 Latinxs in Brooklyn and the Bronx in the summer of 2018 and we are currently in the process of coding and analyzing data for more than 60 surveys conducted to date.
