Scarlet and Black: Slavery and Dispossession in Rutgers' History

The Scarlet and Black Research Project is a historical exploration of the experiences of marginalized groups in Rutgers University's history. As part of the first phase, I wrote the epilogue for the project's first volume which focused on the university's ties to slavery and the colonization movement. In the epilogue, I call on universities to think critically about the uses of history as a driver of institutional change and outline recommendations for how Rutgers, and other universities like it, can come to term with their histories of racism and anti-Blackness
